Domain Names as “virtual assets”
A recent article in the New York Times reminded me, once again, of the increasing power and business value of the internet. The Times article “Coins in the New Realm,” highlighted the increasing value of internet domain names as revenue generating assets for business.

After being hired to perform an analysis of a municipal utility department of a new client, TLB identified several weaknesses in internal control and was able to communicate these to Town management. In addition to internal control weakness, TLB identified inadvertent inconsistent billing practices that had been occurring for several years which had not been considered by Department Staff, Town Management or outside auditors. Once corrected the Town was able to generate approximately $275,000 more revenue, annually, without having to change rates, fees or raise taxes.
